Lost cats

First check that he is not in your house.  Cats have a habit of finding the smallest places to curl up and sleep in.  If he is out, the first thing to do is to search your own road and adjoining streets, checking sheds, garages and empty properties.  Go out and call him late in the evening or early in the morning, when it is quiet and your voice can be heard.

Rattle a box of biscuits and you might be able to hear the cat calling back.  If he is not back within a couple of days, make and photo-copy a sheet of lost notices.  Cut them into individual notices and then post them through all the doors in the immediate area.  Start with several hundred and if this does not work have some more done and extend the area.  In the meantime phone all local vets and animal treatment centres to see if your cat has been brought in injured.  The council and local rescue groups should also be contacted.  If this fails place adverts in your local papers, and put postcards in all your local shop windows.  DO NOT give up - sometimes lost cats are not found until months later.

These are just a few short excepts from the book and there are more than 150 sections in total!
